UNTIER
Overview
Untier (German for “beast”) is a story-driven survival horror game with a souls-like approach to world design.
Survive in a world that forces you to transform into a beast or a hunter.
Genre: Survival Horror, Adventure
Platforms: PC & Nintendo Switch
Engine: RPG Maker MV
Target Audience: Midcore Gamers aged 16-40 who enjoy Singleplayer Games, Horror and Worldbuilding
Untier was developed as part of the 2026 Develop at Ubisoft Mentorship!
Setting
The game is set in a world with a huge class disparity in which – for unknown reasons – humans have started to slowly transform into the animals they are consuming.
These newly transformed humans are referred to as “Beasts” and mostly consist of members of the working class.
Members of the upper class are not yet affected by this and remain human, as they hunt and eat the lower class.
Premise
Players take on the role of Marielle, a young girl who left her hometown to escape poverty and returns, just to discover that everyone she has once known has turned into beasts.
To save herself from being hunted and eaten, she has to turn into a hunter of beasts or men and uncover the source of this evil.
Untier’s narrative is built around the power dynamics of class struggle and the dehumanization of those living in poverty and will find players exploring these dynamics in a dark and mysterious world.
- Depending on whether players go the beast, human or a mixed route, encounters, quests and puzzles will have to be approached differently
Gameplay Loop
How players progress and interact with the world is based on their Humanity/Beasthood Alignment.
Depending on whether players choose to eat humans or beasts, they themselves will transform into one of those two classes, which will affect the way the game feels and treats players drastically.
Narrative
- Untier features multiple endings that are tied to gameplay/narrative player choices
